What is Rhassoul clay (Rasul Clay or Ghassoul) and where does it come from?

This beauty clay is smectic (or swelling) Spa quality clay, its official name is HECTORITE. Found deep beneath the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Rhassoul comes from the Arabic word "rassala" meaning "washing’’.

 

Extremely absorbent, much more so than other cosmetic clays, Moroccan Rhassoul clay is probably one of the most perfect clays in the world, ideal for all skin care and dermatological uses.

Using Rhassoul Clay

Preparation
With a non-metallic bowl and spoon mix the clay with warm water or rose water to obtain a smooth creamy paste, let the mixture hydrate for 5 to 10 minutes.
How to store your clay: fridge or cool dark place.
How to store your mud: in airtight non-metallic container in the fridge for up to one week.

How to use Rhassoul on the face

Just quarter of a teaspoon blended with water will be fine to cleanse your face thoroughly. For a facemask mix one teaspoon with water or rose water for its anti-inflammatory property, apply the paste on wet face and leave it for about 10 minutes. Keep the mud damp with a water spray or simply by applying little water with wet fingers. Rinse your face with fresh water. With its natural action, the clay draws out excess oils and bacteria, leaving the skin feeling clean, refreshed and nourished. You can use some plain rose water on cotton to tighten the pores. Now, your skin is ready for moisturizing with light and easy absorbed Argan oil.

 

How to use Rhassoul on the body?

Cover and rub on damp body with Rhassoul mask.  As we relax, the mud absorbs waste and toxins from our skin. After few minutes, rinse and dry off

 

How to use Rhassoul on hair?

The mixture should be fluid. Add more water to the mixture as described above in preparation section.

 

For dry hair, thick naturally curly hair and natural Afro hair put in one to two teaspoons of Argan oil or/and olive oil. Apply Rhassoul to wet hair by sections starting from the back and moving forward. It does not foam . Do not rub. Leave the clay up to 10 minutes for dry hair and 20 minutes for oily hair. Then rinse well. The clay will clean the scalp and hair, leaving healthier follicles and no dandruff.
